Press Release: NIPC is to partner with the National Ginger Association of Nigeria
As part of its effort to promote the non-oil sector of the economy, the Nigerian Investment promotion commission (NIPC) is to partner with the National Ginger Association of Nigeria to attract investment into Agro-business through packaging of the product for export.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Uju Aisha Hassan Baba while receiving the National President of the Association, Dr. Florence Edwards in her office on Wednesday promised that the Commission will support the Association in the area of processing and packaging of the product to meet the international standard.
According to her, apart from attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the economy, the Commission has as its statutory responsibility to promote Local Direct Investment, maintaining that the Country stands to increase its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through marketing of the Ginger product. “In our drive to take Nigeria beyond oil the Commission welcomes the promotion Ginger products into the international market as more revenue could be generated into the nation’s treasury. The NIPC will support the association in any way possible”, she added
Earlier the National President of the Association, Dr. Florence Edwards had intimated the Executive Secretary on efforts been made by her Association to promote Nigeria Ginger products into the international market, but however noted with dismay that the mechanism to package the product to meet international standard was lacking.
While soliciting for NIPC’s support in marketing the product, she expressed the Association’s determination to make Nigeria’s Ginger the best in the world if given the necessary resources. At the moment, she noted that Nigeria Ginger is exported out of the Country in raw material form as there are no facilities to process them in the country.
She further stated that “Nigeria is the third largest producing nation and has the best Ginger in world” of which only 1% of the product is presently consume locally.
